8 types of men who make the best partners in life, according to psychology

There’s quite a distinction between just dating men and finding the right partner for life.

This disparity boils down to understanding the psychological traits that make certain men great life partners.

Identifying these traits allows you to choose wisely, helping you steer towards a fulfilling and enriching relationship.

As a relationship expert and founder of the Love Connection blog, I’ve got some insights to share. According to psychology, there are eight types of men who make fantastic life partners.

In this article, I’ll be sharing my insights about these wonderful specimens of manhood, so buckle up ladies!

This is Tina Fey, signing in to guide you in your quest for love. Let’s dive into these eight types of men who could be your perfect match in life.

1) The emotionally intelligent man

Let’s face it ladies, emotional intelligence in a man is like finding a unicorn in the wild.

But believe it or not, these unicorns do exist!

According to psychology, a man with high emotional intelligence is one of the best partners you can find. They’re in tune with their feelings and aren’t afraid to express them openly.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting that your man needs to cry at every rom-com or animal rescue video. Emotional intelligence is about understanding and managing emotions – both his own and yours.

An emotionally intelligent man is capable of empathizing with you, and he values your feelings as much as his own. He’s not scared of vulnerability and cherishes open communication in a relationship.

2) The man who respects and values you

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my journey as a relationship expert, it’s that respect is the cornerstone of any successful partnership.

A man who respects and values you is one who treats you as an equal. He listens to your opinions, supports your ambitions, and admires your strengths.

As the legendary Aretha Franklin said, “We all require and want respect, man or woman, black or white. It’s our basic human right.”

And she was spot on!

A relationship where respect flows both ways is a beautiful thing. It fosters trust, understanding, and mutual appreciation – all keys to a loving partnership.

3) The man who prioritizes communication

I’ve always maintained that communication is the lifeline of any relationship.

A man who prioritizes effective communication is one who understands its importance in maintaining a healthy and balanced relationship. He doesn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts and feelings, and he encourages you to do the same.

In my book, Breaking The Attachment: How To Overcome Codependency in Your Relationship, I delve deeper into how open and honest communication can help overcome codependency and foster a healthier relationship dynamic.

A man who actively communicates shows that he is committed to understanding you better and building a stronger bond. He knows that arguments and disagreements are inevitable, but he also knows how to handle them maturely and constructively.

4) The man who isn’t afraid to disagree with you

Now, this might sound counterintuitive. After all, who wants a partner who disagrees with them, right?

But hear me out.

A man who isn’t afraid to disagree with you is one who values his individuality and respects yours. He doesn’t just nod along with everything you say, but rather engages in open and constructive discussions.

This doesn’t mean he’s confrontational or argumentative. It means he’s confident in his thoughts and values, and he respects that you have your own as well.

Healthy disagreements can actually strengthen your bond and deepen your understanding of each other. It shows that both of you can maintain your individual perspectives while still being in a loving partnership.

5) The man with a sense of humor

A good belly laugh can be the best medicine, especially when shared with someone you love.

Over the years, I’ve found that men with a good sense of humor make some of the best life partners. They know how to lighten the mood, bring a smile to your face, and aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves from time to time.

But it’s not just about cracking jokes. A man with a sense of humor also tends to be more creative, insightful, and open-minded. He sees the world from a unique perspective and isn’t afraid to embrace life’s absurdities.

Remember how I tripped over my own feet on my first date with my husband? Instead of getting embarrassed, we both ended up laughing our heads off! And that’s what makes those moments precious.

6) The man who admits his mistakes

Let’s get real for a moment, ladies.

No one’s perfect. We all make mistakes. But what sets a good man apart is his ability to admit when he’s wrong.

A man who admits his mistakes is one who values honesty and integrity over pride. He takes responsibility for his actions and isn’t afraid to say “I messed up.”

He doesn’t make excuses or blame others but instead focuses on learning from his missteps and making amends where necessary.

This trait is incredibly crucial in a life partner because it shows humility, maturity, and a willingness to grow. It also fosters trust in a relationship, because you know he’ll be honest with you, even when it’s hard.

7) The man who is kind

Kindness is a simple yet profound trait. As Mark Twain once said, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

A man who is genuinely kind not only towards you but also to others, shows a depth of character that is essential in a life partner. He treats people with respect, regardless of their status or relationship with him.

I’ve always admired my grandpa for his unwavering kindness. Whether it was the mailman, the grocery store clerk, or his own family, he treated everyone with the same level of kindness and respect. That’s a lesson I’ve carried with me and applied in my own relationships.

8) The man who is comfortable with your success

Alright, ladies. Let’s get real here.

In a world where women are increasingly breaking glass ceilings, it’s crucial to have a partner who isn’t threatened by your success.

A man who is comfortable with your success is one who celebrates your achievements, supports your ambitions, and is proud of the woman you are. He doesn’t feel the need to compete with you but instead sees your success as a shared victory.

This type of man understands that a strong, successful woman doesn’t diminish his own worth. Instead, he sees your strength and success as an asset to your partnership.

Wrapping Up

There you have it, ladies. Eight types of men who, according to psychology, could be your perfect life partners.

Remember, every man is unique, and these traits may appear in different combinations and intensities in different men. What’s important is to find a man who respects you, values you, and is on the same wavelength as you.
