Things Successful People Do on Lunch Breaks

shutterstock_296290751Lunch time is not only about eating lunch anymore. It is an hour of opportunity. Lunch hour can be one of the most useful hours of the day, if you know how to use it right. Whether you are catching up with a client or using it as a time to run personal errands, lunch time gives you 5 extra hours per week to do whatever you need. Hence, don’t sit at your cube with a sandwich, leave your office and make use of the hour ahead.

  • Eat Lunch with Others: Lunch time is a great opportunity to chat with coworkers or catch up with a client. If you want to be successful, you need to build good relationships with people and lunch break is the perfect time to do this. Therefore, use this opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with old faces and meet potential clients.
  • Exercise: Regular exercising reduces stress and decreases tension. Adding exercising into your work day will help reduce stress as well as refresh your mind. If you feel that you don’t have any time to go to the gym to work out, going for a walk outside the office helps as well. Also, nowadays many offices have fitness programs which they bring a fitness instructor on-site for a class.
  • Run Errands: Everybody has things to sort out in their personal lives and lunch break gives you enough time to run your errands. Crossing off items from your personal to do list or at least organizing them frees up your mind so you can concentrate on your work better.
  • Take a Nap: Some offices have nap rooms and they are actually very popular among employees. If you feel like you didn’t get a good sleep last night, taking a 30 minute nap can help. It certainly makes a difference in how you operate for the rest of the day.
  • Unplug Yourself: Take some break. Turn off your computer and smart phone for the lunch break and leave the office. Go eat lunch with other people around you. In this way, you can enjoy your lunch break and get your mind off of work for a while. This will help you relax and clear your mind.
  • Plan the rest of Your Day: Lunch time gives you a window to reflect on what you have done so far during the day and what you need to do for the rest of the day. For example, if an unexpected meeting comes up for the afternoon, you can use your lunch time to prepare for your meeting.
