After diving deep into my own behaviors and those of the men around me, I’ve compiled a list of 7 subtle behaviors that could signify a lack of self-respect.
If these traits feel familiar, it might be an opportune moment to address some concealed self-esteem issues.
1) Downplaying achievements
It’s a common scene – a man accomplishes something noteworthy, yet when congratulated, he shrugs it off nonchalantly, diminishing his achievement as if it’s nothing special.
This type of behavior often stems from a place of self-doubt and an inability to recognize one’s worth.
It’s as if they’re walking through the world with a distorted mirror, reflecting their accomplishments as less impressive than they truly are.
If you find yourself routinely downplaying your achievements or struggling to accept compliments graciously, this could be a subtle sign that you’re not fully respecting yourself.
It might be worthwhile to examine this behavior and consider giving yourself the credit you rightfully deserve.
2) Taking on too much responsibility
On the surface, taking on a ton of responsibility might seem like a sign of strength and capability. It’s often praised in our society as a symbol of industriousness and commitment.
However, continuously overloading oneself with tasks and responsibilities can also be a subtle sign of lacking self-respect.
