Woman Leaders Share Successes at Marketing Awards 2023

"Leadership Success 2023"

Women’s History Month, celebrated every March, acknowledges the contributions women have made in diverse fields across art, science, politics, social justice, and more. This commemorative period highlights women’s accomplishments, their roles as trailblazers, pioneers, and leaders, and emphasizes their integral role in shaping our societies.

The 2023 Class of Women in Marketing Awards allowed female leaders in the marketing field to share their experiences, lessons, and guidance. Recipients shared stories of overcoming adversity in a traditionally male-dominated field, embodying persistence, resilience, and courage. The influence of these women was palpable, inspiring a new generation of marketers to strive for greatness.

Honoree Vanessa Mbonu, Vice-president of Digital Marketing and Communications for NAACP, shared her philosophy of failing fast and building slowly. With a resilient spirit and innovative mindset, Mbonu has significantly contributed to the growth and impact of NAACP’s digital presence. Her approach to see hurdles as opportunities for learning has paved her way to success in digital marketing.

Stanley Brand’s Marketing Manager, Sue Dietrich, emphasized the importance of networking and continuous learning. Dietrich believes that persevering, maintaining a positive outlook, and embracing challenges as stepping stones, can lead young professionals to career advancement. She encourages aspiring individuals, especially women, to fearlessly pursue their dreams, asserting that the rewards are worth the effort.

April Augustine, Marketing Director at Gaming Laboratories International, encouraged women to assert their worth in professional spaces. She believes in the importance of confident communication and urges women to voice their ideas. Augustine’s goal is to instill a sense of self-worth that promotes self-confidence, courage, and the potential to contribute significantly to any chosen field.

Aliah Davis McHenry, Executive Director of Corporation Marketing at Bristol Myers Squibb, underlined the value of steadfastness and resilience in the face of challenges. McHenry called for individuals to persist despite adversities, remain authentic, exceed limitations, and protect one’s happiness. Her words left a significant imprint, motivating those in attendance to strive for excellence.
