Osaka, Japan is gearing up for the Osaka Art & Design 2024, a month-long extravaganza of creativity and innovation. Slated from May 29th to June 25th, 2024, the event aims to transform the city into a sprawling canvas for artistic expression.

The event is expected to mesmerize locals and tourists alike, drawing on the city’s urban spaces to stage immersive exhibitions. Everything from streets, parks, artists, and designers will participate in bringing the city to life with vibrant installations, performances, and workshops.

Think of the city as a giant gallery, a chance for everyone to appreciate the transformative power of art and design. The event sources its ideas from artistic directors and designers worldwide, bringing fresh, exciting, and thought-provoking proposals to our city’s landscape.

Imagine nearly 50 venues throughout Osaka, from Umeda to Namba, transformed into live art spaces thanks to this unique festival. A city-wide gallery for visitors to explore. It’s art and design reaching every corner of Osaka, inviting a broad spectrum of artistic expression.

One of the highlights is the Hankyu Art Fair 2024, a significant part of the festival to promote connections, held at the Hankyu Department Store Osaka Umeda Main Store.

Osaka’s month-long arts extravaganza

Showcasing the works of noteworthy artists like Daisuke Ohba and Mika Shinagawa, the fair is expected to foster collaboration and mutual inspiration among attendees.

Takashimaya Osaka, in collaboration with Reiko Sudo and a modern design studio, is slated to display cutting-edge textiles. Concurrently, HIZO Market will present and sell items that break from the norm, a fusion that’s sure to capture visitors’ imagination.

Featured in the line-up is ‘nuno nuno’, an interactive exhibit by NUNO×we+ at the Takashimaya Osaka Store. It’s an exploration into the collective’s versatile artistic expression under Sudo’s supervision. The extensive showcase includes textiles to installations, a mix of both traditional and contemporary aesthetics that define the NUNO×we+ collective.

The event also includes collections from edra, the Italian design label, and street artist Mr. Brainwash at the historic Pier-2 Art Centre. Meanwhile, Espace de SONDE will host Maki Harigane’s work and GREEN SEED, a temporary and captivating lighting installation.
