The local government is joining forces with leading internet retail companies to launch local businesses into the international arena through e-commerce. This strategic alliance seeks to furnish local entrepreneurs with solutions to market expansion difficulties by drawing on the vast resources of these global retail giants.

An industrial conference held on Feb 21 was overflowed with passionate industry specialists discussing the future of digital commerce. With over 230 delegates present, it was evident that digital transformation is not just a trend but an essential part of remaining competitive in the modern business world.

James Tokioka, the Director of the Hawaii State Dept. of Business Economic Development & Tourism, urged small businesses to transition online. He emphasized that the benefits extend beyond mere sustainability to include broader customer reach and financial gains – particularly crucial in the ongoing pandemic. Online platforms also offer access to broader customer base while enabling businesses to provide round-the-clock service, he added.

As e-commerce rises, businesses across sectors, regardless of size or domain, are left with no choice but to ride the digital wave or get swept away. This is especially true for businesses in isolated regions like Hawaii, where unique geographical conditions make e-commerce not just an attractive alternative but a necessity.

Mahina Made owner, Kailee Freitas, illustrated how e-commerce can significantly reduce overhead expenses associated with physical storefronts while creating opportunities for increased profits by opening businesses to a global market. She stressed that online platforms had enabled her to connect with customers worldwide.

James Tokioka outlined the government’s vision for a fully localized e-commerce system that prioritizes efficient delivery, customer satisfaction, and stringent e-commerce platform regulations. This vision includes an advanced logistics system, robust digital infrastructure, comprehensive cybersecurity measures, and investment in workforce skill development to nurture online transactions.
