Hawaii Boosts Local Businesses’ Global Push via E-commerce

Hawaii Global Push

Hawaii’s state authorities are championing local businesses’ migration to E-commerce platforms in a bid to compete globally. This move presents unique opportunities for Hawaiian entrepreneurs, including a wider customer base, accessibility to numerous resources and tools for a smooth transition to online platforms, and simplified regulations that favor digital trade.

To provide practical guidance on E-commerce, a significant conference took place at Ala Moana Hotel on February 21. The event attracted approximately 270 attendees from around 230 businesses. The participants benefited from the sharing of ideas, strategies, success stories, and practical advice by industry experts who underscored the importance of E-commerce in the current business environment.

Workshops, panel discussions, and sessions were held to grasp key issues that small businesses face in their shift to E-commerce. The event provided a great opportunity for networking, learning and seeking tailored solutions to entrepreneurs’ unique challenges. Attendees found the advice on targeted online marketing and digital service delivery particularly useful.

James Tokioka, the head of the Hawaii State Department of Business Economic Development & Tourism, highlighted the significance of E-commerce for small businesses. He warned businesses could miss out on potential revenue if they failed to adapt to it. Lisa Pakele, Program Director at the Center for Entrepreneurship, emphasized that E-commerce was critical, especially given Hawaii’s geographical isolation since it provided access to wider and diverse markets.

Voices from the online business community, such as Kailee Freitas, owner of Mahina Made, and Omar Alhindi, founder of Custom Ink Design, advocated for E-commerce. They applauded its potential to keep operational costs low and widen the customer base, thus increasing revenue.

In line with these efforts, authorities are making strides to enhance delivery methods and make them more cost-effective. They are exploring innovative technologies to streamline operations for improved user experiences. The local community is urged to understand and effectively use these platforms for a successful venture into E-commerce.
